Nice benchmarks comparing gaming performance of XP, Vista and 7.
Make up your own conclusions here.

Dead Lines

When you get older you get more responsibilities. Right now I am in the process of finishing off my reports for work, it should of been done 3 days ago. It has to be done tommorow (today since its now 00.15).I’ve learned my lesson. No more messing with drivers until my real life is in order.

Combat Arms

The world’s in an economic pinch, at least over here we are. Want a free FPS game? Try Combat Arms It looks like COD4 but the gameplay is like Quake/Unreal. No reason not to give it a go.

Optimised/ Optimized?

No comments January 18th, 2009

People maybe wondering why I spell Optimised and not Optimized.
Easy answer: its Uk way of spelling it not the USA way.
God save the queen.

Dead Space

No comments January 14th, 2009

Been playing it for about 3 days now, had it before xmas but not had chance to play it.
Enjoying it so far, really good game, not very scary but I would say it is tense.
Can’t say I recommend playing it with just a keyboard since it fiddly and doesnt feel right.
Using the Xbox controller and keyboard = best of both worlds.
I highly recommend this game if you are short on time and need something satifying to fill that gap.

Speaking about less time, less gaming, I see myself wanting a wii since its a “casual” thing to play for a “wee” bit, enjoy yourself, stop, then get back to normal daily life. Perfect.

Installer part 2

No comments January 11th, 2009

Well, it was easier than I thought to re-write the install part of my installer. The drivers are now extracted to desktop for convenience, and the bug with drivers not installing for users without a C:\drive is fixed.
So expect Dox Optimised 181.20 with the fixed installer very soon :) .

Installer

No comments January 9th, 2009

My installer needs to be fixed, it will not be for this release (181.20).
The problem is that it assumes you have a C:\ drive, now for most thats fine,
but if for some reason you do not it will fail to install.

This means I will have to re-write part of the installer to include system variables,
hopefully I can get it fixed next time round. With my 181.20 I will include a non installer version for users
without C:\ drives as a workaround.

Dox 181.20

No comments January 9th, 2009

Currently optimising these, should be out sometime next week after I send them to the testers.
I’m not 100% sure on XP64 version yet since hardly anyone uses that OS anymore?

So far some changes compared to previous version 180.84.1:
Minor aesthetic changes to the installer (moved the buttons in the install page “up”)
Got rid of Powermizer switch tool from installer since in-experienced users freakout and over it
Updated tweak set slightly
Desktop support included in these
Re- did the resolution table adding some extra ones not found in last driver.

GT200b, GT212, GTX280M

1 comment January 7th, 2009

Remember I said I expected the GTX280M to be half-way between desktop GTX260 and GTX280?
Well it turns out the GTX280M may never come out. I got a little confused with the “way its meant to be played”. GT200b is a re-spin of the GT200 core with a die shrink to 55nm and of course higher clocks. The cards well be GTX285 for example. The GT212 is rumoured to have 384 shaders up from 240! Now, if the GT212M were to have that many shaders it be crazy and I would drool for a while. However the fact is, it won’t and I’m not entirely sure what Nvidia will call this mobile card, but I will be surprise if it was GTX280M.
So there you go, I corrected myself. The morale of the story? Never trust what you read on the net, or even what you watch on the news.

Keyboardless Macbook

No comments January 6th, 2009

Apple. Now, I’ve never been one to follow fashion or to jump to get the “in” thing. Heck, I don’t even have an Ipod or any other form of MP3 player. Now Apple has revealed a “cool” new feature for their new line of Macbooks. Keyboardless Laptops. I always thought that macs were glorified toys, this just enforces it like a kick in the groin.

Basically you use a wheel to scroll around and select things. Once the novelty wears off and it takes you 40 mins to write an e-mail, you’d pick up a calculator to have fun with buttons again.

Video of the laptop can be seen here:
